This program has truly been life-changing for me. When I first heard about it, I was sitting with Beatrice at our Mathari kibanda. She told me about the program, and I remember telling her, “Beatrice, I don’t want to pay for anything. I just want my degree to start paying me.” I didn’t even care about the cost—I just wanted results. Even she wasn’t completely sure at first, but she decided to go ahead.
Within the first month, she was calling me almost daily saying, “Rotha, you’re missing out.” At that time, I had joined another free skills-transfer program, but honestly, it was so frustrating. There was no real learning happening, and I felt like I was wasting my time. Eventually, I decided to join the second cohort. Dr. Kendi, I don’t even know how to explain this properly. At first, I thought, “10,000 a month?” But I chose to invest in myself—and I have made that money and more every single month at your clinic. That experience taught me that sometimes investing in yourself is the only way forward.
Beyond the financial growth, something deeper happened for me. I’m naturally confident and talkative, but you gave me something I didn’t even realize I needed: space. Space to be myself, to feel my feelings, to make mistakes, and to learn without fear. After school, there’s often no one to walk with you step by step—no one to guide you through the in-between moments. You provided that.
The whole program felt like a hug. The only way I can describe it is being hugged by clouds—feeling safe, held, and supported. I know there’s still so much I don’t know. I still feel like a baby learning to walk, but I feel safe learning. Thank you so much, Dr. Kendi. May God truly bless the work of your hands. I can say with confidence that this journey has changed my life.
Clinical Psychologist
I joined the Mentorship after seeing an advert on Facebook, not fully knowing what to expect. What I didn’t know was that this mentorship would meet me at a pivotal transition—from communication into counselling psychology.
For six months, I didn’t miss a class—online or physical. When Cohort Two began, I kept attending. Learning had become hunger. The readings stretched us (The Books; The Gift of Therapy, What Happened to You), the conversations deepened us, and the space became more than a classroom—it became community.
From Saturday classes, to Wednesday supervision, to Monday private practice at Upper Hill, this season has been phenomenal. My biggest takeaway? Not just what I learned—but the gaps I discovered and the invitation to keep growing. I graduated on Saturday, 20th December 2025, from Dr. Kendi Ashitiva Mentorship Circle as part of the pioneer Cohort 1, together with the Second Cohort. Deep gratitude to Dr Kendi, Niskize Team, the Faculty and my fellow mentorship participants.
Congratulations to us all!
Psychologist
I recently graduated from the Dr Kendi Ashitiva Mentorship Circle ????. The program created space for clarity and growth through guidance from experienced facilitators and shared reflection within the cohort.
Through weekly classes on trauma-informed practice, therapeutic boundaries, and therapist self-reflection, alongside group supervision, I gained a clearer understanding of what therapy looks like on the ground. The experience helped bridge theory and practice and gave me confidence as a practitioner.
Thankful for the learning, the guidance, and the community throughout this journey.
Sessions are rich with knowledge, warm, real, and honest. We talk about what’s actually happening in practice, the moments that feel messy, uncertain, or hard to name. There’s no judgment. Just growth, support, and clarity.
This is serious growth, but we’re still human. Gen Zs, millennials, and everyone in between show up fully. Expect laughter, dancing, selfies, and moments of celebration along the way.
You’ll be guided by people who’ve done the work — experienced Psychologists who understand practice on the ground.
